The Gospel is the declaration of God’s activity from creation to new creation, with the redemptive work of Jesus Christ at the center. Because all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, choosing their own way, all are deserving of God’s wrath. Sin alienates us from him and makes us his enemies…transgressors of His holy law. But at just the right time, when we could do nothing to save ourselves, Jesus Christ died for sinners. Jesus, God’s only Son, made atonement for our sins with his own body and blood, being lifted upon a cross, suffering and dying a criminal’s death on our behalf. He was crushed for our iniquities. But after three days, he rose from the dead never to die again, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
The Gospel declares that anyone who confesses with their mouth and believes with the heart that God raised Christ from the dead will find forgiveness of sins. Belief in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus saves us and reconciles us to God, setting us free to love him and love others. All who repent of their sin and place their faith in Christ are filled with the Spirit of God and have eternal life with him.
The Gospel declares that all things are being made new in Christ. From darkness to light, slavery to freedom, death to life – all made possible through the cross.
